Sage Copilot costs nothing extra on the UK Accounting plans: Start, Standard and Plus (GBP 20, 43 and 59 a month before tax) all include it. Receipt and invoice capture is the part with limits: none on Start, 30 a month on Standard, 100 on Plus, then GBP 0.20 each. The US Copilot page lists no price, only a request button.

Included is not the same as free. Sage's archived plan page shows Copilot moving from a Plus-only feature in March 2025 to every plan by September 2025, while the list fees for Start and Standard rose from GBP 15 and 30 (March 2025 page) to GBP 20 and 43 (October 2026 page). Treat Copilot as bundled into the fee and choose a plan for other reasons.

What Sage's UK plan page shows today

These figures come from Sage's UK Accounting page as captured on 2 November 2026 (the live page on 4 November 2026 showed the same offer, the GBP 20 entry price and "included in every plan"), so check the live page if it differs. Fees are monthly and before sales tax. Sage lists them in pounds and publishes no dollar price, so nothing here is converted.

The plan cards say "Productivity assistant included", and the page headline reads "Sage Copilot included in all plans". The comparison table also lists payroll on every plan (one employee on Start and Standard, five on Plus, then GBP 1.85 per employee a month), which matters if you were about to pay for a separate payroll tool. The offer is 90% off for six months; skip it and you get a one-month free trial instead.

How Copilot went from paid add-on to included

Search results still serve older answers, so the order of events matters. Every line below comes from a dated copy of Sage's UK page or from a Sage help article.

  • March 2025. The page says "1 Copilot user included in Plus plan" and that Copilot is "available to add within product for Start and Standard plans", in other words a paid extra there. A customer on Sage's community hub quoted Sage's email to Standard users: from March 2025 Copilot would be "an additional add-on, charged per user".
  • September 2025. The wording is now "1 Copilot user included in all plans", with "Additional users available to add within product for Standard and Plus plans".
  • November 2025 to January 2026. "All 3 plans include Sage Payroll and Copilot at no extra cost." Each plan card still says "1 Copilot user included", and the Standard and Plus cards add "Add more in-product".
  • April 2026 onwards. Still "included in all plans", but the cards no longer say how many Copilot users each plan gets. The 2 November 2026 copy reads the same.

So a per-user add-on price, if you meet one today (third-party price guides still quote GBP 20 per user a month), describes the 2025 arrangement, not Sage's current plan page. The missing user count is the open question: as late as January 2026 the Standard and Plus cards still offered extra Copilot users in-product, so if your whole team will use Copilot, ask Sage what the second and third user cost.

The list fees moved as well. This is the history from the same dated copies, monthly and before tax:

Page copy datedStartStandardPlusIntroductory offer shown

15 September 2025GBP 18GBP 39GBP 5950% off for 3 months

2 July and 2 November 2026GBP 20GBP 43GBP 5990% off for 6 months

Customers on the community hub tied the early-2025 rises to the AI. Sage's own notice, quoted in one of those threads, says only that there was "a price adjustment to the Plus tier" and that "your subscription now includes 1 user of Sage Copilot". The bundling is documented; Sage's reason for the price is not. Customers on older plans may pay different amounts from these list prices, so your own invoice is the figure that counts.

Why Sage's US Copilot page shows no price

The US Copilot page (checked 4 November 2026) is headed "Your dedicated AI-powered finance assistant" and shows no price; the copy I could read with its menu intact (April 2026) offers a Request pricing link. It names no Sage Accounting plan. Its examples are month-end close, ledger reconciliation and budget variance in Sage Intacct, with Sage X3 alongside, and its FAQ says that once you buy a subscription you "will be able to access or add on" Copilot, and that "Copilot availability differs depending on product and region".

Read that literally: for the US there is no list price to find, and no promise that Copilot is bundled. A small US business on Sage 50 or a similar product needs the Copilot line from a representative. A short message does it, and the wording below is worth keeping because it forces the answers into writing.

Hello, we are a [business type] with [number] users on [Sage product and plan].
Please confirm in writing:
1. Is Sage Copilot included in our subscription, or an add-on?
2. If an add-on: the price per user per month, and the minimum number of users.
3. Any usage limits (documents, queries, automated actions) and the price beyond them.
4. The contract term, and whether the Copilot price is fixed at renewal.
5. Whether we can switch Copilot off for individual users.
Thank you, [your name]

The same page carries a caution worth repeating: features shown are "illustrative" and "may vary by product and region", and future features "should not be relied upon for purchase decisions". Buy what the quote lists, not what the demo video shows.

Other Sage products: Sage 50, Intacct and X3

Everything above is about Sage Accounting. Sage's own Copilot FAQ says availability "depends on the Sage product you use and the subscription plan you're on": some plans include it, and where yours does not, "you may have the option to add it" for an extra charge. It tells you to look in your subscription management area or ask support.

Sage 50 shows why that advice matters. On 4 November 2026 the UK Copilot page still listed Sage 50 Accounts among products Sage is "currently developing" Copilot for, yet Sage's own knowledgebase has an "Activate Sage Copilot" guide for Sage 50 Accounts version 31.1 and above, and its guide for accountants supporting Sage 50 clients says Copilot is "included for all customers, with one user per subscription". Sage publishes no price for extra Copilot users there. If you run Sage 50, Intacct or X3, treat the marketing page as out of date and go by your own subscription screen or a written answer from Sage.

AI capture: the allowance that still costs money

Copilot is the headline, but the line that changes your invoice is capture. Sage's September 2025 page described it plainly: upload or email purchase invoices, and the AI "extracts and pre-fills details for your approval"; duplicates are flagged for review; supplier details, tax amounts, line items and the ledger code are suggested. It is "included only in Standard and Plus plans", and the allowance counts approved captures.

The arithmetic is simple, and it contains one surprise. These are the monthly totals at different volumes, before tax and ignoring the introductory offer:

Captures approved in a monthStandard (GBP 43, 30 included)Plus (GBP 59, 100 included)
20GBP 43.00GBP 59.00
60GBP 49.00GBP 59.00
100GBP 57.00GBP 59.00
150GBP 67.00GBP 69.00
300GBP 97.00GBP 99.00

The surprise: Standard is never dearer than Plus on capture alone. Above 100 captures the gap settles at GBP 2 in Standard's favour, because the extra GBP 16 for Plus buys 70 more included captures worth GBP 14 at the overage rate. Capture volume is therefore never a reason to upgrade. Upgrade to Plus for a fourth user, stock control, multi-currency work or budgets.

A realistic mistake shows how this plays out. A café on Standard approves 100 captures one busy month and sees GBP 14 of overage on the invoice. The owner upgrades to Plus to "stop paying extra". The next bill is GBP 59 against GBP 57 on Standard, so the upgrade cost GBP 2 more and bought nothing the café needed.

Start is the other edge. It has no capture at all, so moving up from Start costs GBP 23 a month. If you scanned all 30 included documents that is about 77p each; if you scan ten, it is GBP 2.30 each. That only makes sense when you need Standard's other features, such as supplier bills, anyway.

Surprise charges happen. In late October 2026 a customer asked on the community hub what counts as a capture after an overusage charge, because their sales invoices came from other software and their purchase invoices arrived by email. They asked whether emailed PDFs count, how to see usage and how to identify the counted documents. The Sage reply said the cause of an individual case cannot be settled on the hub and pointed them back to technical support. I found no Sage page that says where the monthly count is shown, so ask support to send it in writing and keep your own tally for the first two months.

A bakery's first year on Standard, to the penny

Round numbers keep this readable. A bakery has three people logging in and approves about 55 supplier invoices and receipts a month: flour, packaging, a van service, the electricity bill.

  • Allowance: 30 included, so 25 chargeable captures at GBP 0.20 is GBP 5.00 a month.
  • Months 1 to 6 on the offer: GBP 4.30 plus GBP 5.00 is GBP 9.30, so GBP 55.80 over six months (assuming the offer discounts only the plan fee, which the first invoice will show).
  • Months 7 to 12: GBP 43 plus GBP 5.00 is GBP 48, so GBP 288.00.
  • First year before tax: GBP 343.80, or about GBP 28.65 a month averaged.

The ongoing cost is GBP 576 a year before tax, of which GBP 60 is capture overage. If the bakery trimmed to 30 approved captures by skipping duplicates and parking small cash receipts for a monthly batch entry, it would drop to GBP 516. Whether that is worth the effort is the owner's call; the point is that the figure is visible before you sign.

The same question for a cycle shop, an HVAC firm and a café

A bicycle repair shop with one person doing the books and few supplier bills fits Start. A year costs GBP 132 in the first twelve months on today's offer (six months at GBP 2, six at GBP 20), then GBP 240 a year. Copilot is included, capture is not, and that is fine when the shop keys six invoices a month by hand.

An HVAC contractor with six logins across the office and the vans needs Plus, because Standard stops at three users. With about 160 captured supplier bills and job receipts a month, 60 are chargeable: GBP 12 on top of GBP 59, so GBP 71 a month. On Standard the same volume would cost GBP 69, but the user cap rules it out. The decision follows users, not capture.

A café whose accountant sets up the subscription may pay a different price, and the next section covers why.

If your accountant manages the Sage subscription

Sage runs a separate route where an accountant buys subscriptions for clients. Its accountants page (copy dated 19 October 2026) lists client plans at GBP 13.50 (Start), GBP 20 (Standard) and GBP 25 (Plus) a month, each marked "Copilot included". It also lists AccountsPrep at GBP 3 and Sole Trader at GBP 4, with a footnote that Copilot is "not included in AccountsPrep". The Sole Trader card carries no Copilot label.

Standard at GBP 20 through an accountant against GBP 43 direct is a gap of GBP 276 a year, which is worth a question. I could not confirm that client plans carry the same capture allowances and support, so ask your accountant for the plan comparison and who receives the invoice. If you are an accountant yourself, Sage Copilot for accountants covers what Copilot does in each Sage product you manage.

Note the footnote on that page: Copilot is excluded from AccountsPrep, and client plans are chosen through a Sage for Accountants sign-up rather than the public checkout. If the subscription screen your accountant sees and the public plan page disagree on Copilot, believe neither until support confirms in writing which plan the client is on.

What Copilot does, and what Sage's headline numbers rest on

Sage describes Copilot as a built-in assistant that drafts payment reminders in your tone and timing (you review and send), nudges you through return tasks and deadlines, flags common mistakes before a return goes in, and surfaces cash-flow and profit trends. Sage says it runs within the permissions you set and keeps audit trails. None of that costs extra on the UK plans, so it is worth switching on the reminders first: they are the one feature with a clear before-and-after measure.

Sage's claims need a pinch of salt. On the UK Copilot page, "get paid 7 days faster" carries a footnote that reads "Based on 21 customers". A second footnote describes an in-depth study of 28 small businesses who were given a product demo first. Those are small groups, so measure your own: note the average days-to-pay on your last 20 paid invoices, switch the reminders on, and compare with the next 20. A bakery that currently waits 31 days on wholesale invoices has a clear number to beat.

A quick sum shows why the first hour goes on reminders. Say the bakery invoices GBP 5,040 a month to wholesale customers. If reminders really took 7 days off the wait, the money owed to the bakery at any moment falls by about GBP 5,040 × 7 ÷ 30, which is GBP 1,176. That is cash timing, not profit, and it only holds if Sage's claim holds for you, but it is a bigger prize than any capture saving on this page.

Do not confuse this with Microsoft's assistant of the same name. Sage Copilot is Sage's own and is priced inside Sage plans; Microsoft's is a separate licence, covered in Microsoft 365 Copilot pricing, Business vs Enterprise.

Ten minutes to check what you actually pay

  1. Open the subscription management screen and write down the plan name, the user limit and any Copilot line.
  2. Note the date the introductory offer ends and the full monthly fee that follows. Put that date in your calendar.
  3. Ask whether Copilot covers one user or all users. If extra users cost money, get the price per user in writing.
  4. Ask how capture is counted: approved documents only, or every upload and email. Ask where you can see the running count.
  5. Save a copy of the plan page and your first invoice. Plan pages change often, as the history above shows.
  6. Compare month two's invoice with the tables in this tutorial. Any line you cannot explain goes to support the same day.

If you are comparing accounting packages as a whole, the comparison of AI accounting agents across QuickBooks, Xero and Sage sets Copilot beside its rivals, and the capture side is covered in AI receipt capture and bank categorisation.

Choosing a plan when Copilot is no longer the deciding factor

With the assistant in every plan, pick on users and features, then check capture last.

  • One user, mostly sales invoices, a few supplier bills: Start, at GBP 20 a month once the offer ends. Expect to key supplier bills by hand.
  • Up to three users, regular supplier bills, 30 or more captures a month: Standard. The first 30 documents sit inside the fee and extra ones cost GBP 0.20.
  • Four or more users, stock, multi-currency or budgets: Plus. If you also scan more than 100 documents, the overage is the same GBP 0.20.
  • Accountant-run books: ask them for both prices before agreeing to a direct subscription.

Sage Copilot pricing questions

Is Sage Copilot free on Sage Accounting Start?

Sage's UK plan page says Copilot is included in all three plans, Start among them, at no extra cost. Start is the one plan without AI capture of receipts and invoices. Included still sits inside the plan fee, which is GBP 20 a month before tax once the introductory offer ends, so you are paying for it whether or not you use it.

What does an AI capture cost after the allowance runs out?

Sage charges GBP 0.20 for each additional approved capture on Standard and Plus, after 30 or 100 included captures a month. Because the wording says approved captures, ask Sage support in writing whether documents you reject, delete or receive by email count towards the allowance before you rely on that reading.

Where do I find Sage Copilot pricing in the US?

Sage's US Copilot page has a Request pricing button and no list price. Its examples are Sage Intacct and Sage X3, and its FAQ says availability depends on product and region. Ask a Sage representative which product you would be on, and ask for the Copilot line as a separate figure on the quote.

Will the 90% introductory offer still be there next year?

Do not count on it. Archived copies of the UK plan page show 50% off for three months in September 2025, 90% off for ten months in November 2025, three months free in April 2026 and 90% off for six months from July 2026. Budget with the full monthly fee and treat any offer as a bonus.

Does Copilot work in Sage 50 as well?

Yes, from version 31.1. Sage's knowledgebase has an Activate Sage Copilot guide for Sage 50 Accounts, and its guide for accountants supporting Sage 50 clients says Copilot is included for all customers with one user per subscription. Extra Copilot users go on your licence, so ask Sage what a second user costs.
