Goodcall's unique-caller billing stays cheapest for most small businesses, including at 600 callers a month, where its Growth plan costs about $155. It stops paying when callers are few and very short, or when you pass about 2,000 callers. Compare it with Rosie, Dialzara and Smith.ai using your own caller and minute counts.
The rule behind that: Goodcall charges for people, the others charge for time or for calls. Long calls from few people favour Goodcall. Many short calls from many people favour the others only slightly, and the cost of switching, retraining the agent and re-testing, usually outweighs a saving of ten dollars. Below, every number comes from the vendors' own pages as read in early November 2026.
The Goodcall price ladder and its two break-even points
Goodcall's pricing page lists three self-serve plans and an Enterprise tier for more than 2,000 customers a month.
| Plan | Monthly price | Unique customers included | Each extra customer | Approximate calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $79 | 100 | 79 cents | about 150 |
| Growth | $129 | 500 | 26 cents | about 750 |
| Scale | $299 | 2,000 | 15 cents | about 3,000 |
Two sums tell you when to change plan, inside Goodcall, before you consider anyone else.
- Starter to Growth. Starter plus extras reaches $129 when you have about 163 customers: $79 plus 63 at 79 cents is $128.77. Anything above roughly 165 customers a month is cheaper on Growth.
- Growth to Scale. Growth plus extras reaches $299 at about 1,154 customers: $129 plus 654 at 26 cents is $299.04. Above roughly 1,150 customers, Scale is cheaper than staying on Growth.
Goodcall's page says it will tell you when a bigger plan would be cheaper, but do the sum yourself once a quarter. The ceiling is the Scale plan's 2,000 customers. Beyond that you are in Enterprise, which Goodcall describes as volume pricing with onboarding and an SLA, with no published number. A business that grows past 2,000 callers is in a negotiation, and the alternatives below become real quotes to compare against.

Buy nowWhere the unique-caller model works against you
Per-caller pricing ignores how long people talk. That is a gift when calls run long and a weakness in three situations.
- Few callers, very short calls. A plant nursery that gets 40 callers a month asking opening hours pays $79 on Starter even though total talk time is under 60 minutes.
- Lots of one-off callers. Each new number is a new customer. A venue running a ticket promotion that draws 900 first-time callers in a week is billed for 900 customers whatever they say.
- A plan floor above what you need. The smallest Goodcall plan is $79. Dialzara starts at $29 and Rosie at $49, so a business under about 100 calls a month overpays for headroom it never uses.
Goodcall's own comparison to a live answering service is worth keeping in mind: it quotes $1.50 to $1.90 a minute for live services and says Starter works out to about 13 cents a minute at four-minute calls. That comparison flatters Goodcall against humans, not against another AI vendor.
A worked month: 600 callers, 900 calls, two minutes each
Illustration: a sports club with a coaching academy and a facility hire desk. In a typical month, 600 different numbers call, and Goodcall's own page equates 100 customers with about 150 calls, so I use 900 calls. I assume the average call lasts two minutes, so about 1,800 minutes of talk time. Those assumptions can be wrong in either direction, so I show a four-minute version afterwards.
| Vendor and plan | How the 600-caller month is billed | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Goodcall Growth | $129 plus 100 extra customers at 26 cents | $155 |
| Rosie Growth | 2,000 minutes included, 1,800 used | $299 |
| Dialzara Business Elite | 1,000 minutes included, then 800 at $0.35 | $629 |
| Smith.ai (500-call tier) | $800 for 500 calls, plus 400 at $2.10 | about $1,640 |
The Smith.ai line uses the rates printed on its AI receptionist pricing page: the 500-call Enterprise tier at $1.60 a call and the extra-call rate of $2.10. At this volume you would ask for the 1,000-call custom tier, which Smith.ai does not publish, so $1,640 is a ceiling and a quote could be lower. The Dialzara figure compares with the Business Plus plan, which costs $199 for 500 minutes plus 1,300 minutes at 40 cents, or $719, so Elite is the cheaper of Dialzara's two options here.
Now stretch the calls to four minutes each, 3,600 minutes. Goodcall does not change: still $155. Rosie's 2,000-minute Growth plan is exceeded by 1,600 minutes, and Rosie's page lists the question "What happens if I go over my minutes?" without a readable rate, so I cannot price it. Dialzara's Elite becomes $349 plus 2,600 minutes at $0.35, which is $1,259. Smith.ai stays at about $1,640 because it counts calls, not minutes. The longer the calls, the more Goodcall's model wins, which matches what Goodcall's page claims.
Break-even in minutes per caller
You can reduce all of this to one number: how many minutes does each caller use in total? Divide a competitor's included minutes by your caller count.
- Rosie Scale ($149 for 1,000 minutes) beats Goodcall Growth's $155 at 600 callers only if callers average under about 1.7 minutes in total across all their calls. At Goodcall's 1.5 calls per customer, that is about 1.1 minutes a call.
- Rosie Growth ($299 for 2,000 minutes) never beats Goodcall Growth at 600 callers, because it costs more before you add a single minute.
- Dialzara Business Lite ($29 for 60 minutes, then 48 cents a minute) beats Goodcall Starter up to about 165 minutes of talk time a month, since $29 plus 105 minutes at $0.48 reaches $79. That suits a phone with a few dozen short calls and little else.
The takeaway is that Goodcall's break-even against minute-based vendors comes at very short calls. If your callers mostly ask one question and hang up, a minute plan can win. If they book, ask about prices and describe a job, Goodcall wins.
A quiet phone: 40 callers a month
Illustration: a gift shop that gets about 40 different callers a month, who make 60 calls between them, lasting two minutes each, so 120 minutes. This is where Goodcall's $79 floor hurts.
| Option | Working | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|
| Rosie Professional | 250 minutes included | $49 |
| Dialzara Business Lite | 60 minutes included plus 60 at $0.48 | $57.80 |
| Goodcall Starter | 100 customers included | $79 |
| Smith.ai Free | 25 calls free, then 35 at $3.00 | $105 |
| Smith.ai Pro (75 calls) | flat for 75 calls | $150 |
For the quiet phone, Rosie Professional is cheapest, and Dialzara Lite close behind. The $30 a month gap against Goodcall is $360 a year, which would pay for a lot of test calls. Smith.ai's free plan is cheaper than its own Pro plan up to about 65 calls, because 25 free plus 35 at $3 is $105, against $150.
Features that change the answer more than price
A cheaper bill that cannot do the job is not cheaper. Four differences show up in vendors' own pages and are worth checking against your needs.
- Booking into your calendar. Rosie books directly on a calendar from its Scale plan upwards; the Professional plan sends booking links by text only. Dialzara supports Google and Outlook calendar sync from its Pro plan. Smith.ai lists AI scheduling with Calendly and others on every plan, including free.
- Transfers to a human. Dialzara lists blind transfer on every plan and warm transfer from Pro. Rosie lists warm and live transfers from Scale. If a caller with a burst pipe must reach the owner, test the transfer, not just the answer.
- Text messages. Goodcall can text a caller but cannot receive replies. Dialzara sells an SMS add-on at $19 a month plus $0.05 per message. Rosie sells website texting at $50 a month for 25 conversations.
- Call history. Goodcall keeps 30, 90 days or unlimited history by plan. Check how long each vendor keeps recordings if you need them for disputes.
The transfer and booking facts matter more than a $20 price difference. If you plan to book into a calendar, compare the plans that include it, not the cheapest plan on each page. The tutorial on what happens when you go over your Rosie minutes covers the unpublished-overage problem in more detail, and the Dialzara plan breakdown shows how the four minute plans compare.
Three more months priced four ways
One scenario does not show the pattern. Here are three different shapes of business, each worked on the published prices above. Every figure is illustrative, and every call length is an assumption you should replace with your own export.
A coworking space: 200 callers, 300 calls, 1.5 minutes each
The front desk misses calls while showing prospects round, and most enquiries are about desk availability and prices. That is 450 minutes of talk time a month.
- Goodcall: 200 customers is over Starter's 100, so Starter costs $79 plus 100 at 79 cents, or $158. Growth at $129 is cheaper, so the answer is $129.
- Rosie: Professional's 250 minutes is too small, so Scale at $149 for 1,000 minutes.
- Dialzara: Business Plus at $199 includes 500 minutes. Business Pro at $99 plus 230 extra minutes at $0.45 is $202.50, so Plus is cheaper.
- Smith.ai: 300 calls on the Pro tier is $500 a month.
Goodcall wins at $129, with Rosie $20 behind. If the space values Rosie's direct calendar booking, which needs Scale anyway, the $20 is a fair price. If it just wants messages taken, stay.
An event venue in a launch month: 900 callers, 1,350 calls, 3 minutes each
A ticketed event draws a wave of first-time callers. Talk time is about 4,050 minutes, and the sum shows why unique-caller billing handles spikes well.
- Goodcall: Growth at $129 plus 400 extra customers at 26 cents is $233, which is under Scale's $299, so stay on Growth for the month.
- Rosie: 4,050 minutes is over double the top plan's 2,000. Rosie does not publish an overage rate, so the month cannot be priced from the page.
- Dialzara: $349 plus 3,050 extra minutes at 35 cents is $1,416.50.
- Smith.ai: 1,350 calls is beyond the published tiers, so it needs a custom quote.
A launch month is the worst case for per-minute and per-call vendors, and the best case for Goodcall: its bill rose by $104 over the base plan, while the others rise by hundreds or become unpriceable. The lesson is to price your busiest month, as well as your typical one, before you pick a minute-based plan.
A sole trader coach: 90 callers, 135 calls, 3 minutes each
Here the owner is self-employed, answers client calls herself and wants a safety net during sessions. Talk time is about 405 minutes.
- Goodcall: 90 customers is inside Starter's 100, so $79.
- Rosie: 405 minutes is over Professional's 250, so Scale at $149.
- Dialzara: Business Pro at $99 plus 185 minutes at $0.45 is $182.25, and Business Plus at $199 is dearer.
- Smith.ai: 135 calls fits the 150-call Pro tier at $270.
Longer calls from a small number of people is the pattern Goodcall suits best, and it wins by $70 a month over the next-cheapest option. If her calls were one-minute availability checks, the minute vendors would close the gap, which is the break-even logic from earlier.
The cost of switching is not zero
A saving on a pricing page is not a saving until you have moved. Add three costs to any comparison before you leave a working tool.
- Rebuilding the agent. Your greeting, FAQ answers, hours, transfer rules and message questions all live in the old tool. Budget two to four hours to recreate and test them on the new one, and more if you used external tools or integrations.
- Test calls. You need at least a dozen test calls covering your commonest questions, one transfer and one booking. Smith.ai lists test and simulated call allowances, and Goodcall's AI usage is test runs, so find out whether tests are free or counted.
- Number porting or forwarding. Goodcall says you can keep your number by forwarding it. If you move, make sure the forwarding rule you set up for the new vendor is tested before you cancel the old one.
Value your time. Four hours at, say, $40 an hour is $160 of effort, and a saving of $20 a month takes eight months to repay it. A switch needs to save roughly $50 a month, or fix a feature gap, to be worth doing for a small business.
A first-week checklist after any switch
- Day one: call the new number at an off-hours time and again in business hours, and confirm the greeting, hours and name are right.
- Day one: test the transfer to your mobile with the phone on silent, then with it on, and time how long it rings.
- Days two to three: ask the five questions customers ask most and compare the answers with your real policy, wording and prices.
- Day four: read every call summary and flag any that mishandled a request. Fix the instructions, not the individual call.
- Day seven: compare calls answered against your phone provider's log and check nothing was lost.
A realistic mistake is to switch on a Friday and discover the transfer number had a typo on Monday morning. Switch early in the week and keep the old setup running for a few days in parallel if the vendor allows it.
How to count your own callers in an hour
Do not guess your numbers. Your phone provider or mobile app can export a month of call history, and it takes less than an hour to turn it into the three numbers you need.
- Export one full month of incoming calls with the caller number, date and duration.
- Delete obvious spam and wrong numbers, because Goodcall does not bill for them.
- Count unique numbers. That is your caller count for Goodcall.
- Count total calls. That is your count for Smith.ai.
- Add up call durations and round up to whole minutes per call. That is your count for Rosie and Dialzara.
- Divide total minutes by unique callers. If the answer is under 2, minute plans are competitive; over 3, Goodcall wins comfortably.
A realistic error: owners measure only answered calls and forget missed ones. The missed calls are the reason you are buying the tool, so include a 20 to 30 percent allowance for calls the receptionist will now catch. Another is using the busiest month, such as a seasonal peak, to choose a plan that you then pay for all year. Choose for a typical month and accept occasional overage, which on Goodcall is just the plan's per-customer rate.
A sample decision, filled in
Business: facility hire desk for a sports club
Callers last month (unique numbers, spam removed): 540
Calls last month: 810
Average call: 2.5 minutes -> 2,025 minutes
Goodcall Growth: 129 + 40 x 0.26 = $139.40
Rosie Growth: $299 (2,000 minutes, slightly exceeded, overage unpublished)
Dialzara Elite: 349 + 1,025 x 0.35 = $707.75
Smith.ai 500-call tier: 800 + 310 x 2.10 = $1,451
Decision: stay on Goodcall; recheck at 1,100 callers (Scale break-even)
Must test before relying: warm transfer, calendar booking, repeat-caller count
Filling in a block like this every quarter takes ten minutes and gives you a record that a vendor's price rise or a change to its billing model is easy to spot against.
When to switch, and when to stay
- Stay on Goodcall when you have 150 to 1,100 callers a month with calls over two minutes, and its features cover your booking and transfer needs.
- Move to Rosie or Dialzara when you are under about 100 callers a month, or calls are very short and the bill difference is tens of dollars a month.
- Look at Smith.ai when you value its scheduling and integration options, or the option to add human-first or hybrid service, over price. Its per-call model is the least friendly to high volume.
- Negotiate or change structure when you pass 2,000 callers: ask Goodcall for Enterprise terms and get a Smith.ai custom quote for the same volume.
Each vendor can change plans and pricing without notice, and Rosie's overage rate is not published, so re-read the pricing pages on the day you decide. For a deeper look at how repeat callers are counted before you commit, read the Goodcall unique-caller explainer, and for the head-to-head with Rosie see Goodcall against Rosie, callers against minutes. Questions before you leave Goodcall
What does Goodcall count as a unique caller?
Goodcall says one phone number counts once a month, so a person who calls back five times in a month is one customer, and two different people are two. It says spam and wrong numbers do not count at all. Minutes are never metered, so a thirty-second call and a nine-minute booking cost the same.
What happens if I go over my Goodcall plan?
Nothing breaks. Goodcall says extra customers bill at your plan's own rate: 79 cents on Starter, 26 cents on Growth and 15 cents on Scale, with no penalty rate. It also says it tells you when a bigger plan would be cheaper than staying where you are, so watch for that message.
Which alternative is cheapest for a very quiet phone?
At around 50 calls a month of two minutes each, Rosie's Professional plan at $49 or Dialzara's Business Lite at $29 plus overage usually undercuts Goodcall's $79 Starter plan. The gap closes as calls get longer or caller counts rise, so price your own numbers on each vendor's page before choosing.
Can I keep my existing business number?
Goodcall says every plan includes a local number and you can keep your existing one by forwarding it to Goodcall. The other vendors' pages are less explicit about forwarding from your own number, so ask each one directly before you sign up, especially if the number is printed on vans, signs or your listing.
